People Living With The Dead

The Manila North Cemetery opened in 1904, is the largest public cemetery in the country. It is considered as one of the important landmarks in the City of Manila. Most of the country's Leaders and City Mayors are laid to rest here. Among them, Presidents Sergio Osmena, Manuel Roxas and Ramon Magsaysay, Manila Mayors Ramon Nolasco, Valeriano Fugoso, Manuel De La Fuente, Arsenio Lacson and Antonio Villegas.

But here's the catch, the cemetery is home for more than 10,000 informal settlers, from "caretakers and their families assigned by owners of the various mausoleums" to "just simply poor people avoiding high cost of house rentals outside"....

Below are photos of some people living in the premier public cemetery.

The Manila City Government is now trying to find solutions on the issue of squatting.
